A sherbet palette doesn’t necessarily come to mind in conjunction with techno futurism but that is what makes Balenciaga so great. Ghesquière constantly redefines, pushes forward and experiments even as pressure towards convention mounts.  He proves that innovation doesn’t necessarily equate with looks that are unwearable. Careful construction and balance open new channels, fresh conversations but ones that are viable. In the natural selection of things safety may work for now but it this innovation that will hold strong.

Marni’s Fall collection was true to Consuelo Castiglioni’s signature mismatch of patterns and structural construction but it was her color palette that caught our attention. We love the dusty pink, turquoise green, rich wine, steel grey and cartamin yellow.  Add to that the visual quality of her clothing, the tactility of her fabrics, the sculptural shapes and richness of the dyes, which put her in a league of her own. The evidence of her success with this unique approach is in her client base, art world heavy weights and creative mavericks who not only celebrate but seek out her elevated view on getting dressed.

You can always count on Proenza Schouler to go against the grain.  We love this season’s play on proportion, baby doll dresses and top-heavy coats balance on long thin legs. Jack and Lazaro have made a name for themselves as fashion’s cool kids with Chloe Sevigny, Nicole Ritchie and Mary-Kate Olsen sitting shoulder to shoulder in the front row. In a nod their alma mater we saw variations of varsity jackets, buttoned to the collar white shirts and pleated skirts. Had our uniform looked like this we would have surely made Dean’s List.

Tokion’s Spring issue’s bold colors and patterns have us wondering if less really is more. We say go for it.

When all is lost and fashion seems stunned and stagnant Camilla pulls together images that capture the spirit of beauty. A woman in her eyes is sexy in her own right, free, unkept, full of life and not to be contained, just captured in perfect moments.

So far the fall shows have been less than impressive. We are crossing our fingers that London, Milan and Paris will pick up the slack. Until then its the Spring campaigns that are turning our heads we love Mert & Marcus for Miu Miu, their play on perspective is genius and Lindsay Wixon looks ravishing.

Brooklyn based Mast Brothers chocolate offers gourmet treats like Dark Chocolate with Almonds and Sea Salt or Dark Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs, as one of the only bean to bar chocolatiers they take their candy very seriously. Michael and Rick Mast started the company to be able to work with family and friends and to make things from scratch that would create happiness. Their chocolate is handmade in small batches and culled from the highest quality cacao from Madagascar, Venezuela and Ecuador. We’ll be honest it was the packaging that caught our eye but now we are intrigued.
